New Animal Rights Activist Magazine - Submissions Requested

Over the past few years Auckland Animal Action (AAA) has been producing a newsletter that is primarily aimed at our members. This newsletter consists of news about actions AAA has been involved in, events that are coming up, ALF updates, details of animal issues (for example information on fish farming) and philosophical articles (for example why one should support the ALF).

While producing the last edition, Spring/Summer 2007, it dawned on us that there are issues that we would like to discuss that are activist focused and thus not suitable (or of interest) for our members. It seems to us that there is the need for a national animal rights magazine aimed at ourselves and the movement rather than the public.

In light of this, AAA has decided to produce a 6 monthly A4 format magazine that we hope will foster some much needed discussion amongst our movement. The type of content we expect to have will be:
• updates from the underground (both Open Rescue and the ALF),
• security issues,
• discussion around tactics and strategy,
• legal updates (changes in the Animal Welfare Act, case law and activist court appearances)
• information about animal abuse industries and key individuals
• up and coming events
• international and local news
• information about government legislation that may effect activists
• articles to draw the links between environmental and human and animal rights issues
• contact details of all of Aotearoa’s Animal Rights groups
• philosophical discussion (for example rights vs. welfare)

We believe that the content will be much broader and will cover many more angles if the submissions come from various groups and individuals. We are happy to compile and edit the magazine and we would like contributions from as many people as possible. Any submissions will be printed anonymously so that the focus is on the content of the article and that the reader does not treat the content with any bias.

We are aiming to have the first issue out near the end of March; if you or your group have anything you would like to contribute please email contributions and associated images to aucklandanimalaction@yahoo.com. Please have these to us by March 1st to allow time for editing and layout.
